Indie Füde

Indie Füde are independent champions of Irish food, obsessed with flavour, stories and the people behind both. From their Comber HQ and cheese-focused Ormeau Road shop, they bring together the very best small‑batch producers from across the island of Ireland – farmhouse cheesemakers, craft charcuterie, bean‑to‑bar chocolate, coffee, condiments and all the good things in between.

They believe food should feel personal, not generic. That’s why every wedge, jar and bottle on their shelves is indigenous and independent – sourced directly from makers who care about their craft, their community and their impact. No mass production, no shortcuts; just honest Irish food chosen because it tastes incredible and tells a story worth sharing.

Founded by self‑confessed local‑food obsessive Johnny McDowell, Indie Füde started life as a tiny online shop run from a loft before growing into a modern deli, events space and online store with a cult following at home and abroad. Today, Johnny, Laura Bradley and the Indie Füde team taste relentlessly, travel widely and work closely with makers to surface new Irish favourites – from Dexter beef raised down the road to curry pastes, cheeses and sweets from every corner of the island.

Their two shops say a lot about their ethos. Comber, the “mothership”, is a community deli packed floor‑to‑ceiling with over 700 Irish artisan products, plus a 28‑seater space for supper clubs and tastings with local chefs and producers. On Belfast’s Ormeau Road, their dedicated cheese and coffee store is staffed by Academy of Cheese‑qualified cheesemongers pouring Causeway Coffee and building show‑stopping Irish cheeseboards every day.

Indie Füde don’t just sell Irish artisan food – they advocate for it. Named Blas na hÉireann Producers’ Champion in 2022, they’re recognised by producers across Ireland for backing small makers, opening up new markets and telling their stories with real care and energy. As part of Belfast Flavours, Indie Füde bring that same spirit of independence, integrity and joy in great Irish food to the wider collective, helping to put local producers at the centre of how Belfast eats and drinks.
